Fire Evacuation Drills & Plans

Employers are required to have an evacuation plan for their premise in the event of fire and regularly test the plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the terms of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 employers have many responsibilities, to:

​

  • Carry out a fire risk assessment of the workplace.

  • Identify significant findings of the assessment and the details of anyone especially at risk. (NB These must be recorded when there are more than five employees).

  • Provide and maintain the precautions against fire that are necessary to safeguard those who use their workplace.

  • Nominate people to undertake specific roles as required by the emergency plan

  • consult their employees where people may be given specific roles and about proposals for improving fire safety.

  • Inform other employers who have workplaces in the same building of any significant risks they find which might affect their employees and co-operate with them as necessary.

  • Undertake regular training to ensure employees know what to do in the event of an emergency

  • Carry out evacuation training and drills

  • Review the assessment every 12/14 months.​

Most workplaces are covered by the legislation. This places a responsibility, as an employer to make sure that you and others are safe in the workplace if there is a fire.
